Cheap and no room for advancement

Pros

No micromanaging, relaxed schedule. They had a good work- life balance and I never had to stay over-time.

Cons

Pay and benefits are well below industry average. You will never get a raise. The system they use is really outdated (DOS) and their programs are all really old (running on Microsoft 2007 or older). So, when you go to your next job you won't know any of the current programs and will be pretty behind. There are a lot of big egos in upper management so it was difficult to make any efficient changes. You would think that it's easier to make changes in a small company because there aren't as many people that need to approve them but that isn't the case here. Overall, the company is really outdated and stuck in their old ways. There also wasn't much room for career advancement here unless you were senior level. A promotion was basically a title change but the duties were the same.

Pros

They have a Keurig coffee maker.

Cons

This company penalizes all salespeople (except the owner's family members) every way they can. All of their in house inventory (which is old and moldy) is listed as a consignment. They have ancient stock and when you are lucky enough to sell some of it, you don't get to enjoy big profits; you are hit with a HUGE cost to the "consigner" which is the president/CEO for inventory he has owned for decades. Then you are forced to work through a furlough program so the company can have the state pay a portion of their payroll. The program dictates that they must give you 1 day a week off and the state pays that day as a form of unemployment. However, if you don't work that day (which the state pays you to be absent) you are on a blacklist at the company and they make work conditions unlivable until you quit or they find a reason to fire you. I have filed a grievance with the state over this fraud and I encourage all current and past employees to do the same. The owners employ their totally incompetent relatives that are bulletproof regardless of their constant mistakes. The CEO employs his brother and his wife that are completely useless. When a good month is achieved; instead of incentivizing the people who made it happen with money, a big party is thrown at the CEO's mansion and the employees (who are forced to attend) have the owner's success rubbed in their faces, furthering their disgust for the company.

Thank you for your honest feedback, and we're sorry that you didn't have a great experience while working at Area51 Electronics. Unfortunately, we did have to establish a furlough program back in 2012-2013 during the economic recession that severely impacted our company and our industry. The furlough program was the best alternative we had to avoid a companywide layoff that would have devastated a lot of team members and their families. The program provided supplementary income benefits from the State for any lost wages during furlough while allowing us time to get through the difficult times. We are grateful for this program to have allowed us to retain many of the team members that are invaluable to us until this day. I'm not sure if you participated in the exit interview when you left, but we are continually seeking continual improvements for the company and would appreciate any feedback. We would like to hear more and learn about your experience with our inventory. Please contact me at: collaborate@area51esg.com Daniel Nguyen, V.P. of Operations

Pros

They pay on time. Flexible with personal matters and friendly atmosphere. Some times you get free Pizza. If you get a huge sales everyone will hear about it. Moderate benefits.

Cons

No Sales support. Weak Procurement Department. Outdated internal IT Sales System (DOS Driven, must I say more?). Nickle and Dimmed for every penny (Cheap Officers of Company). They are too cheap to pay decent wages to qualified QC individuals so most speak Vietnamese and NO English. No "job well done recognition. No bonuses no sales spiff's.

I apologize for my late reply. I want to thank you for taking the time to write this review. Your comments and advice are being evaluated for opportunities to improve. I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the purchasing team and that you are not being supported. Sales, in general, is not easy at all. Hearing that you are not being supported can only make sales and your work frustrating. To help me better understand your experience, please contact me directly to discuss. Even though our ERP system is "DOS based", it's a good fit for us right now. However, within the next five (5) years, we plan to transition to a different ERP system.
