Top-down decision making and little independence

Pros

The people are nice, especially if your jobs are not related. Catered lunches and stocked kitchens let you save money. The catering choices are all pretty good. The offices are near some good restaurant options as well.

Cons

All decision making is top-down. There’s no real autonomy or empowerment, so you have to get approval for the smallest things. Working with other departments reinforces this. Meetings are to bring questions back for a manager’s answer, not to solve problems. There’s also entertainment industry politics. People get promoted beyond their ability and want to protect their turf. Even simple things get dragged out so fragile egos are not bruised. Pay is low. No room to advance even though the company is hiring.

Pros

Great entry-level company. If you're assistant or coordinator level, ATV is a great place to work. You will have a lot (a hell of a lot) of work to keep you busy and projects to build up a resume and / or portfolio. The company's business infrastructure and industry reputation is great. Salaries are very low but great health and 401K benefits.

Cons

Not a long-term company. Most employees are young, inexperienced, entry-level, so dependability, attention to detail, and professionalism is lacking. The other side of the employee pool are overpaid executives. There's little to no middle management which is difficult for the worker bees to get anything approved or get face time with the decision makers. There's a lot of last minute tasks and errors that could have been avoided weeks before they arised. Additionally, executives rarely know what their employees do which makes yearly reviews and raises an issue. Salary. Again, most employees are young and inexperienced and the salaries match. There is little to no movement within the company so make sure the job you get is the job you want long-term.
