Pros

They do cool stuff I guess? They're hyper-focused on blockchain so if that's your bag, I guess it could be a cool place to work -- if the people that ran the place weren't maniacs.

Cons

The CEO of the company is a nightmare, and the people right below him in chain of command are also a little nuts. There's a lot of really talented people there, but zero direction for people, so you're really just left to fend for yourself. This could work for some people, but it didn't work for me. There was also a lot of internal political crap. Some of the people in leadership there lack diplomacy and tact, and one of them actually went as far as to have a personal vendetta against colleagues. It was incredibly unprofessional and created a pretty hostile environment to work in. The CEO lacks the ability to direct, and also has trouble articulating exactly what he needs from the people that work for him. This led to a lot of wasted time on stuff that never went anywhere.

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We are committed to creating an environment where our team feels valued and empowered, so I’m disappointed to hear about your experience. We value all feedback as it helps us grow, but I want to address some of your specific concerns. We’re growing fast in a new market and building on an untested platform – that does mean we move fast and have to work together to navigate brand new territory. We give a ton of independence to people and accordingly we expect folks to ask for help when they need it. We treat our entire team like founders and expect a founder mentality every step of the way. This is working for us: we bootstrapped Axiom Zen with zero venture funding and in six years have built five companies: one acquired, two venture funded, two profitable. Along the way we have created dozens of award-winning products and gathered the most incredible team we’ve ever worked with: three former CEOs, four former CTOs, and alumni from Apple, Google, Disney, Microsoft, Amazon, Unity, ESPN, Ubisoft, Stanford, Columbia, and Waterloo among others. We try to be as up-front as possible about how we are different in our interview process – sorry we didn’t do a good job in your case, and thanks for sharing your experience so others can learn and make an informed decision.

Pros

Talented co-workers and peers. Vacations and working from home days, if you know how to stay under the radar. Working on innovative projects. Management team used to be fun, inspiring, and good to work for.

Cons

Confused, indecisive, and impulsive leadership. No defined roles or responsibilities. No one is in the office.

Pros

Lots and lots of talk and fluff, like most start ups.

Cons

This is for the Vancouver office. It feels like a get together for UBC, SFU, and the colleges alumni to feel good about themselves when all of the talent from the actual top schools are in more competitive companies.
