I worked at Axios Systems full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working on a variety of projects keeps the job interesting. Axios is growing all the time, and growth is exciting. The team here are great, and everyone looks out for one another. They put on fun get togethers with food which are a great way to meet people who are not in the same department. The (HQ) office is in a nice Edinburgh building in the city centre

    Cons

Parking isn't great at the head office, which is to say non existent, I have to park a ten minute walk away, which is probably no bad thing for my health. There is no air conditioning, so on a hot day it can get a bit stuffy inside.

    Cons

Many will read these reviews and make their own judgements. I worked with this organisation and i have never been so glad to leave in all my life - was torture! The family that owns the business genuinely believe they are owed something for giving people jobs. There are more and more people leaving having realised there are better organisations to work for with much better conditions. There is total lack of... trust with the family & the employees. You need permission as well as justifying why you want to work at home. Albeit the family members just choose when to turn up for work or stroll in/out whenever they like. Some of the family members are ageist - the feel people in there 50’s have less to offer! Some of the family members have been responsible for some employees going on the sick then having to resign as they couldn’t cope or face coming back to the office due to their manners and approach towards them. Some would call it a form of bullying. While management team (8 months old) now left and not replaced with the family blaming them rather than looking at their own behaviours . Lack of leadership in finance team or Marketing team. Some of the family fight against other family members. Its clear they are not all joined up with some family members just doing what they want. You hear the family shouting at each other - its not pleasant. Overall revenues are declining in many of the regions with the family not willing or wanting to face up to the facts or tell employees there is nothing to worry about. With all the recent departures the organisation is rudderless with no real leadership.

GlassDoor can often be viewed as a place where disgruntled employees leave bitter unfair reviews about companies. However in the case of Axios this is not true, this company really is rotten to the core and the majority of content in the reviews is accurate. There is a toxic fear culture in this organisation driven by the family that own the business. Employees tend to keep their heads down than draw attention to... themselves and get in the firing line of the family. The other Directors regularly interfere with the business and regularly undermine the CEO, ignoring instructions, doing whatever they believe is good for them and not considering what is good for the company. The whole management team has recently resigned and left due to the toxic behaviour of the Directors The whole Admin and HR teams resigned in one week due to ethical issues by the family, as have most of the good Finance staff This company is on a downward spiral...hire a new management team....wait 12-18 months....management team leave or are fired......hire a new management team.....wait 12-18 months....management team leave or are fired..... this is also the same with sales staff Technology business has changed over the past 30 years and if you keep doing the same things you have always done that don't work, then you will continue to get the same poor results year after year Seriously think twice about joining this organisation as it can be damaging to your health and mental state. There are seriously easier and nicer ways to make money than working here.

    Pros

The employees are great and working with them is like working with a family (if you exclude the rest of the issues)

    Cons

Axios could've been a great place to work for if only the directors (owners) were not involved. The is micromanagement to the max (unnecessary weekly reports required by every single employee). The owners are not trusting the employees to be autonomous. Everything needs to be passed on to the owners otherwise you are in trouble for not letting them not of even the simplest detail that changed. If someone tries to... suggest something that can actually improve things the only responce you get is a negative one (with no facts to back this up) saying no because we have always done is this way. The rest of the management was awesome! And I am saying was because guess what. The majority has left the building! I know that many of my ex-colleagues have handed in a detailed Exit Interview addressing all the issues but no changes have been made and I wholeheartedly believe the no changes will be made. This saddens me as I know the potential of this place, if only the directors allowed this to happen. 1 star rating is very generous for Axios. If the owners and any family member were not involved in this the rating would've been a 5 and I wouldn't have left.

    Advice to Management

Let your employees do their job and stop trying to control everything that they do. Stop applying all this unnecessary pressure that could actually influence the employees' well being.

    Cons

Family is toxic and just look out for theirselves, even lie to customers. Management is poor and cover up everything in fear of ‘the family’! Product is archaic, unreliable, insecure and stuck in the 90’s Atmosphere is poisonous ....never suggest they are not the best!!!!!

    Advice to Management

Retire and sell the business. accept the product is not even close to the same calibre as competitors. Start to value employees....stop looking down your noses at people!

    Pros

The majority of employees are an absolute joy to work with

    Cons

Owners refuse to take responsibility that they are the problem Family politics every day - they don't want the company to evolve Abuse members of staff over the phone throughout the day Pull job offers at final stage because the owners thought 'they breathed heavy' Too much 'dead wood' in the business - employees who have been there 10 plus years just coast and get everything they want, employees who are... new are not trusted to do their job and there is a sense of fear instilled within them Processes are so dated but its ok because 'we've always done it this way'

    Advice to Management

Step back, enjoy retirement and allow your business to flourish with the right team. There has been an exceptional team recently, with the majority now away because the family get involved too much. The sons are fighting for the power and the parents don't want the company to evolve. If you want to be up with the likes of Cherwell etc - retire, go to a beach, pay off your sons and get a team to bring you into the... 21st century. After leaving the company and currently being refused what I am due as a final payment, my advice would be to avoid - there are too many reasons to disclose but everything about the company is dated and they don't want to modernise.

    Pros

Annual leave: 30 days plus one extra day for the first five years you complete in the company. Depending on what team you’re in it makes a huge difference, and also who your manager is, who will train you, how much your manager is valued and how good he is, etc.

    Cons

Not trusting people to work from home except of very special circumstances or depending on your team leader and his manager. No career path, no investment on staff. Salary reviews do not come easily depending on what pay level you’re in. No matter what position one is: one month notice period for leaving the company.

    Pros

Great workforce who work hard despite owners daily micro-management.

    Cons

You must give serious consideration before joining this organisation. If you are looking to develop any skills or indeed have industry experience to share with the business this is not the place for you. The organisation is 30 years old and the attitude to people management and working environment definitely reflects this. By all means use this as a possible "jumping off" point for a future role but make no plans... for a long term career here. Beware quick HR recruitment/on-boarding and just as rapid departure process.
