    I worked at Barneys full-time

    Pros

Good place to work for those who love fashion and luxury brands. Also it was easy to have a holiday whenever you want to take (up to 1 week - 2 weeks).

    Cons

Many people left companies and especially there were frequent changes in senior manager positions.

I worked at Barneys full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits were fairly good. Frequent 50% off discounts (due to declining store business; hoping employee purchases could make up for some sales) and three weeks vacation time.

    Cons

Throughout my time at BNY, I had good times and I had bad times. Ultimately, even through the trials and negative parts, I walked away having learned some important lessons.

Because I was lied to regarding my raise and promotion, I honestly cannot recommend this company to a friend. I was strung along for months for a raise and promotion and was doing the promoted work for almost nine months. I had to do the work and was told the promotion would be official come March during the review period, which did not happen. When I finally spoke with the correct people regarding this ordeal, I was given my promotion months later but denied a raise. I regret not getting it in writing.

    Advice to Management

Do not sacrifice aesthetics and brand values for tacky marketing gimmicks. Customers can smell desperation and when they see the brand is in trouble, they run.

Barneys is no longer a leader, but a follower. Listen to what the employees have to say. The happiness of your employees matter. Company morale matters. But most importantly, give employees a reason to trust you and a reason to stay. As I see it, there is no real incentive to stay.

I worked at Barneys full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Opportunity to work with exclusive luxury goods and meet great customers. If you love being in the customer service field and have the ability to not "be in your feelings" then you will be okay. HR dept is always there for any concerns you may have and make the effort to make sure you are ok. Seasonal discounts they give to employees are great! You can potentially make a lot of money from commission especially working at the flag ship locations.
Health insurance provided + 401K plan that they match.

    Cons

Miserable sales associates and managers in every corner of the store. The Barneys culture is nonexistent. The company doesn't really emphasize what sets them apart from other luxury department stores. Some of the "exclusive" products they sell can also be found at Saks and Bergdorf... so don't know why they say its exclusive to Barneys when it really isn't. Customers know more than the associates do sometimes, it's sad.
Little opportunity for growth (pay and position).

    Advice to Management

Restructure the company and emphasize what the Barneys culture is. Employees love to feel like they are a part of something big and unique. Get rid of all the unhappy managers who can't seem to make the move to be happier elsewhere.
