    Advice to Management

Continue to build the business with the long term in sight and the wellbeing and engagement of employees as a key priority.

I worked at Biffa full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There aren’t any pros of working for this business.

    Cons

Inconsistent communication from HO to the depots who are run as independent businesses if you like. You can never track commission correctly so never sure if you’ve done enough to hit target. No real structure and people who are unsure of what they are doing and what falls within their remit. A lot of passing the buck. Not to mention being a huge PLC yet not being able to spend marketing budget or even be given marketing material to promote the business properly at events. No room to progress within the business as people happily sit in their positions until retirement (easy job for them) which makes career development for the younger workforce non existent.
No team nights out or bonding sessions, no celebration of team successes

    Advice to Management

Exercise your authority and be sure of what it is you can and cannot do as it seems the management team don’t actually have any powers without authorisation from above.

I worked at Biffa full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good for a place to get some experience in dealing with chemicals and using wet chemistry and analytical techniques. Also anyone looking to get an understanding of pipes, valves, pumps motors etc, working on the plant will give you an awareness.

    Cons

Salary wasn't brilliant. It is an incentive for biffa to keep people on the agency. People have been with the agency for 5-6 years without becoming permanent.
The most obvious con is that its a dirty environment. You deal with waste.

I have been working at Biffa full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Biffa has been on a real positive journey over the past years and the future is looking bright.
The HR team is made up of strong, knowledgeable and connected individuals who are all committed to the 'Biffa Way'.
The company culture has a great feel about it, one that's very 'team' based with everyone working together for the benefit of the company. Biffa know that to make their business strategy work, they must align it to their people and ensure first and foremost their people are the priority.
Over the last couple of years Biffa have invested a huge amount of money into brand new systems and processes to keep up with technological advances and competitors, as well as investing in new trucks and even electrical vehicles.
Progression and development opportunities within Biffa are fantastic, management really want to push and nurture individuals so they can become the very best within the industry. Many people now in management positions have started off in Customer Services taking calls everyday.
Overall, Biffa is a great company to work for and has built a nurturing, long term, mission-driven culture amongst it's people.

    Cons

Due to being such a large organisation there can be issues with communication and interpretation. Needs to be better flexible working options for those on the front-line.

    Advice to Management

Keep driving the mission, values and strategy and ensure all employees are kept part of the Biffa journey..
