Terrible place for your mental health

Pros

The lab managers keep all of the workspaces in great shape.

Cons

Research Associates are overworked and underpaid compared to other RA positions with comparable responsibilities. Group leaders do not have proper management training. Very palpable unconscious bias against women and people of color. Biohub definitely focuses more on science than their people. A lot of the cultural issues have been there since day one and have been brought up time and time again but leaders do not prioritize them enough. Biohub is able to get away with it because they get a fresh batch of new grads to overwork each year.

Pros

Interesting research, including basic science Great group of people working there Energetic feel

Cons

Pay is incredibly low. Company said they were doing a salary review since this came back as a concern from the company-wide survey. They said they did a salary review but I don't think it helped. At least it didn't help me.

Pros

amazing science, beautiful building and state of the art labs

Cons

some of this is very team dependent, so take my review with a grain of salt. that being said, my conversations with other RAs have illustrated that burnout is rampant. expect to be treated as an experienced graduate student, without the proper mentorship or financial compensation. i think the main issue comes down to having young team leaders that have no actual management skills, so you end up with an over-achieving boss who does not know the value of positive feedback and is mostly trying to use you for your skills/time/youthful energy so that they can publish papers and make their bosses happy. perhaps if we got paid more than ~60k it might be worth it!
