Pros

Depending on the department, you could work with some pretty cool stuff. The pay is alright, benefits are good even though the recent changes to health insurance have been a step backward.

Cons

There are a lot of politics between departments. No one communicates, not even the execs. Recent layoffs have everyone on edge. CEO tows the party line when it comes to the Cable Industry. Little opportunity for advancement.

Pros

Looking out 3-5 years down the road for cable industry and also defining that technology as well. The company has smart people and you can learn a lot. Individuals with wealth of experience in video technology and network technology.

Cons

This company used to be great but recent changes made it an unsettling place. There is little or no communications and people are being let go left and right. It's hard to focus on your job when you could be next to let go.

Pros

Salary and benefits are Okay. There some good decent people working at this company.

Cons

CableLabs has all disadvantages of a corrupt non-competitive corporate environment: Too political; no vision at all; lots of stress for nothing; you need to join cliques to grow; despite a lot of rhetoric there is little opportunity for innovation. The management get big bucks but sucks. I wish I had never joined this company. Avoid at all costs!

CableLabs Response

I am a current employee at CableLabs having joined just over a year ago. I do not recognize any of the behaviors mentioned in this review. It is not true that you need to join cliques to grow, I have had no problem working with colleagues across the organisation. CableLabs is a small company (~200 employees) and there is a strong sense right across the company that we need to work together across all the technical disciplines to survive and thrive in an industry encountering massive change. It is not true that there is little opportunity for innovation. I joined CableLabs precisely because it is tasked with progressing innovation on behalf of cable operators and we are highly respected across the industry for our growing leadership in key areas such as software-based networking not to mention the amazing technical achievements in evolving DOCSIS to meet the needs of cable operators worldwide. Don't take my word for it, do a web search! The environment at CableLabs is extremely supportive and I have felt valued since the first day I joined and the leadership is very open. The CEO sits in an open cubicle along with everyone else and is accessible to any employee without an appointment. He holds all-hands meetings for employees every month and is very open in discussing issues affecting the company and employees. I feel very sorry that this employee has felt the need to air his/her grievances in such a public way and I hope that whatever has caused them to be so upset can be resolved.
