      Chaotic leadership, poor communication, and mass layoffs

      Pros

      Talented and collaborative colleagues across functions Remote flexibility and solid tech stack Interesting space (cybersecurity) with strong potential

      Cons

      Senior leadership changes frequently with little transparency Strategic direction shifts often without explanation or context Recent layoffs affected a big number of workforce in the company, including high-performing teams Communication is reactive at best; transparency is claimed but not practiced

      Censys has lost its way

      Pros

      - when I joined Censys it was the pinnacle of people-first culture and leadership (however please read on for more on how this has since evolved) - small size so there's lots of opportunity to stand out and progress your career - interesting product in a hot space, it's not a perfect product by any means but it has a competitive edge in some respects and at one point I was confident it would become even more competitive with a few improvements - very remote friendly and pays very well for most positions, very competitive benefits and perks - despite the cons below there are a number of very kind and talented individuals still with the company who, god willing, will help continue the vision originally set out for Censys

      Cons

      - within the last quarter things have taken a major downturn and leadership has not responded quickly enough or in the right ways to combat these issues, leading to layoffs and some other poor decisions - I have fear that the current leadership is not going to be the right team to dig Censys out of the hole it's currently in - culture is suffering in a major way and I'm not sure there will ever be a way for the current team to return to the culture and values previously upheld at Censys

      Pros

      Data that the world needs Censys could become highly successful

      Cons

      Every couple of years, Censys fires most of the C-level and this just happened again. The remaining C level (beyond a founder) is a new CTO, who is an extreme micromanager, has zero charisma, and frequently demeans people.
