Problems, many problems

Pros

Clinical staff enjoy some flexibility of schedule. Some in supervisory positions are supportive and experienced.

Cons

Some jobs are described as "35 hours per week" -- don't believe it -- figure on a minimum of 45 hrs to do all that is required! There is a "productivity" quota to meet and mountains of required paperwork and mandatory meetings. The hours are very long for clinical staff, the pay is very low. Benefits are not great. The health insurance does not even cover one day surgeries!! No raise the past year and premiums went up for health/dental. 3% match on retirement savings was dropped. Constant IT problems to frustrate you. Parking is problematic at times. Individuals who worked hard their whole career at the agency have been "walked out the door" due to "budget" problems. Climate control problems in the building. Clinical staff pay for their own training, licensure fees and exams for licensure.

Pros

The electronic medical record makes it impossible for a chart to be lost of inaccessible.

Cons

The pay is low and the hours are long. Management is constantly adding to the list of tasks and responsibilities of clinicians. The productivity expectation is unrealistic for all, but most difficult for those serving the severely and persistently mentally ill population. There is no help from support staff, though medical staff have nurses to field their phone calls, transcriptionists for their dictation and secretaries do their scheduling. The new office building in Derry is incredibly cold in all seasons except summer, making working conditions difficult. The old building has not been sold but is not in use, so taxes have to be paid on that. There is a new Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation machine that was invested in, but gets little business. Money is spent on a full-time facilities mgr, full-time maintenance person, part-time cleaning crew, landscapers, window cleaners, and a part-time upholstery cleaner -- quite a crew for a small, non-profit, community mental health center.

You can come to work straight from your bed, leave the crust in your eye and throw on some wrinkled cothes that smell like the night before. If you like that sort of thing.

Cons

Gaslighting Poor training Mobbing Unrealistic expectations Nepotism
