Pros

Some great people, nice office in good town centre location at UK HQ, some really interesting customers with interesting challenges. Career opportunities are good as new roles which offer opportunities for promotion come up very often for a medium sized business. Generally a pleasant place to work and there is lots of effort going into moving the business forwards (though at times this is hampered by bad decisions and apparent lack of funding).

Cons

Shortage of QA & Product Management resources. Product is difficult to deliver for customers who require a high level of customisation as the software has not been developed with 'ease of delivery' in mind. There is a culture of "develop first, design never", which has resulted in poor product documentation and ill conceived features.

Pros

There is a good sense of camaraderie within a lot of the teams at employee level. The company went through a transformation to improve how it was organised and worked. There can be a lot of autonomy if you want it.

Cons

There is a lot of churn at the company. You can come into work on a Monday and find people have left - you are lucky if you are told about this as you find out mostly via your peers hearing something. If you do hear from management then it is the bare minimum and you have to piece together the relevant information yourself. Some really good people have left recently and people cannot understand why nothing was done to keep them. For those who leave, they are not replaced and this greatly increases the workload on others. It is difficult to get things done as a result but senior management do nothing about it. Senior management seem to change things on a whim and communicate very poorly, with some exceptions. There is a lot of talk about improving ways of working but there is no actual activity by senior management to address the problems raised to them that will fix things. Salary levels are low for the skills required and there is little room for salary improvement. Last year was the first time there was an annual pay review. There is little room for progression in the company. The company talks about a family atmosphere but, if there is, it is not a positive family atmosphere.

Pros

Chevin has a good team of workers. There is good communication and since the restructure, there has been a better defined future for the company. There is a good mix of new and old employees allowing for good training and a good understanding of the products. A more defined product team has also allowed the company to better define itself and move significantly forward

Cons

Whilst the teams work well, a better defined management structure and complaints procedure is needed. Burnout is a real issue at Chevin due to people working above and beyond to ensure projects go to plan. There is also a tendency for people to take total ownership of projects rather than a collaborative team, which means milestones are missed and there are power struggles when it comes to decision making.
