Pros

The HR department is great. Coworkers are nice and dedicated to helping families. Families are great to work with.

Cons

One of the worst nonprofits anyone could ever work for. There are talented employees, yet some individuals working in the leadership team are so out of touch with front-line staff and the communities we serve. One particular person thinks that because they know the ins-and-outs of education, that they know the ins-and-outs of a nonprofit. There are ideas, but no order and people are extremely overworked with no support from anyone. This organization dedicates themselves to serve communities, while not caring for their own employees. This organization works to provide people with good early childhood education centers and support, yet their own employees are struggling. It is not fair and those responsible should be ashamed of themselves. If you haven't heard of Chicago Commons, its because you shouldn't be. Do not apply to work here, you will want to leave just like everyone else is doing.

Pros

They usually contact you by phone. Once your interview is scheduled, they are pretty much prepared to interview you. In the interview there are usually 8 interviewers. Many questions about Reggio Emilia and your philosophy of education.

Cons

They take a long time to hire you. As soon as the interview is over they talk very bad about each candidate. Once hired you are to do what they want you to do. They do not support teachers and they are left with large amounts of responsibilities that are not in the job description. They will enroll children that are not potty trained, even if in the policy it states that by children should be potty trained to start.

Pros

The people and families you work with are great for the most part. You may learn things from your coworkers about other aspects of the company.

Cons

this is a non-profit company that has a CEO who allows the COO to run the entire organization. The COO micromanages everyone that is either a director, or supervisor. The COO feels like if she is working then everyone should be working 24 hours, seven days a week. The pay for most positions are very low but the pay for the top positions are high. And they continue to add or create top paying positions for people that are not minorities. A lot of those people are friends or associates Of the COO. The COO is allowed to hire companies for contracts but the companies are wands she has hand-picked which may be owned or ran by her friends. This is not a company I wish to work for any longer. If you do not agree with the COO she finds a way to get back at you. I can’t understand how anyone works for her. And I feel bad for the young lady that is the admin assistant for her Because she constantly creates work for her to do.
