Pros
The main location/building is clean and well-kept. You also get a chance to build meaningful relationships with the people you serve.
Cons
If you plan on having a direct-care position, don’t expect a raise. After working for 5 years, I was making the same as new hires- despite having wonderful annual evaluations. The positions seem built for college students who need experience instead of a livable wage. No matter how valued you are, they won’t increase pay. Administration and leadership also tends to have unrealistic expectations, as they sit in their office and aren’t typically present. I had my phone ringing none stop with texts and calls during after-hours and was always expected to answer but was never compensated for my time. You will be treated as completely replaceable. The treatment of their patients also leaves a lot to be desired- as long as services look good “on-paper”, it won’t matter what’s in the child’s best interest. The children of donors also get special treatment, while children put into the custody of Childserve are pushed aside and forgotten about.
