Unethical and Authoritarian Leadership

Pros

The mission is great and the impact is huge. So many people have now escaped the cycle of poverty because they now have a college degree and a good paying job.

Cons

New leadership at College Possible is unethical, authoritarian and manipulative. Basically if you are not a yes-person, you are cut out. If you disagreed with leadership, you were essentially pushed out of the organization and replaced with someone who will fall in line and do what they are told. This is not a psychologically safe place to work, and I am advising everyone I know to stay away. You will burn out within a short period of time if you work there. Unreasonable demands are placed on you and you are shamed if you say you can't handle it. Misappropriation of funds and shady hiring practices will likely lead to some sort of lawsuit or financial crisis in the future. I (and many other people) witnessed some very shady and unethical behavior and reported it to the board, but nothing was done.

Terrible & Racist Management

Pros

When the pandemic happened they let us work from home. It was a total lifesaver being able to 'mute' all the pointless meetings. The trips were fun - but they aren't happening anymore. Coworkers are amazing - I made lifelong friends.

Cons

Management is racist - every person of color quit or got fired. They have endless meetings where everyone tries to out 'woke' each other. Management is also incompetent -they don't encourage people to stay at their jobs and actually promote a high turnover rate. Also, they don't have a lot of parking. They make UNPAID Corps members PAY for parking. The office shares a building with a homeless shelter. Needless to say, people are living on the street right outside of the building - it's very dangerous and scary to leave alone.

Run.

Pros

logo is green, that's a cool color.

Cons

- no clear accountability or owner - 75% of the national team is run by consultants, including programs and innovations, where two current consultants run weekly meetings. - turnover is around 80% and growing - empathetic leaders are hard to come by, which is ironic in a "student-focused" nonprofit serving 30K students across the country
