I have been working at DWF full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I joined DWF on my qualification as a solicitor in March last year. The interview process was fairly relaxed; being interviewed by two senior members of the team, and discussing my experience and what I could offer to DWF (and indeed what they could offer me!) were I to join. Since joining DWF, it has lived up to all it's promises. My team are very approachable, and as a newly qualified solicitor I feel I get a good...

    Cons

Given the size of DWF, it's inevitable that the promotion process is quite gruelling, and focuses a lot on financials. This can be quite difficult for junior solicitors seeking to climb the ladder, when they don't always have full control of billing of matters.

I worked at DWF full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I worked at DWF for about 2 years, in this time I made some wonderful friends, had some genuine colleagues and a really knowledgeable team. I worked with partners and senior leaders across the business who were (most of the time) highly engaged, friendly, helpful and willing to work with you to obtain the best results. I felt like DWF has a lovely atmosphere and flexible approach to working.

    Cons

Management was the main problem in the business and the fact that there was no effective support or guidance . DWF very much has a 'care about yourself and not the team' culture which was visible from management. The firm did little to retain employees, there was no decent reward, progression or development path and it's very much a 'if your face doesn't fit you're not wanted within the team' environment. Managers tend...

I have been working at DWF full-time for more than a year

    Pros

i find the business as a whole to be very gracious, accepting and encouraging of new employees to be open about their ideas on how to improve. Not only is it a comfortable place for open speech but you feel really valued for showing some passion and abit of flare. I genuinely feel at home in DWF, it was scary to join such a large law firm with a top reputation, but everyone has been very welcoming. The interview process...

I worked at DWF full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great work, clients and responsibility. Agile working. London has an amazing office.

    Cons

Approach of management is inconsistent and some are not reflective of the firm's "outlook" meaning it feels disjointed at times and hypocritical. Benefits are poor - little room for promotion, pay rise or bonuses. HR can be difficult and they have a inflexible approach.

    Advice to Management

Focus on improving senior management and leading by example from the top down. Fee earners and support staff work very hard and should be rewarded rather than constantly asked for more.
