Pros

Cool technology in a cutting-edge space.

Cons

The technology doesn't actually work all that well. Tech is highly rigid and difficult to manage, update, or improve due to the nature of the systems. As a result, you will have trouble making an impact, and the turnover of engineers at the company is quite severe. Management is not setting you up for success, they will throw you into the deep end and expect you to fly. The Management Clique hires their friends and lovers directly into management. Promotions from within are non-existent. Raises are non-existent. Spineless management will not be honest with you regarding your output, progress, standing, and compensation.

Dwelo Response

We’re sorry to hear you feel that way. It’s clear that your exit from Dwelo was frustrating, and it is our intention that every employee - current and former - should think of their experience at Dwelo positively, as one that enriched their life both personally and professionally. We know that the vast majority of Dwelonians do feel that way, but in this case we clearly missed the mark. It is true that our product experienced challenges in our early days. As you say, we’re working in a cutting edge space, which means we are pioneering new technologies in many ways. We’ve been working hard to address core product reliability by investing in the size and quality of our engineering team. The leadership of the engineering team has been completely refashioned over the last year, with more experienced personnel brought in to raise the bar and correct the trajectory of our tech stack. As a result, we are releasing new features faster than ever. With any changing of the guard, it is inevitable that there will be turnover, but sometimes change in personnel is necessary to correct the path of a team. As Dwelo has grown, we’ve generally made promoting from within a priority. A software engineer was promoted to senior architect. A customer support rep was promoted to quality engineering. Field technicians have been promoted to sales development representative, field service managers, project manager, and technical product manager. Our director of sales and director of project management were promoted from within. On and on, Dwelonians that have proven themselves have been promoted, not based on friendship or politics, but based on merit. It’s true that this is a startup environment. Sometimes that can feel like being thrown in the deep end. We’re moving fast and building the airplane as we fly it. Not everyone is meant to work at a fast-growing company like this, but those that can succeed in this type of environment find it very rewarding. We’re sorry Dwelo was not the right fit, and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Subpar Management

Pros

Pretty good pay, decent benefits, and some flexibility

Cons

Dwelo is a pretty average tech company. There's really nothing that sets them apart. But it's not terrible, so long as you don't have to deal with upper management. The executive team is honestly just annoying. The CEO is a first time CEO, and it shows. He is a terrible people manager, and is a classic small tech company CEO that favors the sales teams. I have watched him joke around with the sales team, and give one word answers to people from other department trying to chat with him. So, if you're in sales I'm sure he's great to work with, if not I would expect to be treated like a second class citizen. On top of that, he likes to micromanage stuff, so I'm not sure what the scaling plan is there. I would say if you have a position where you don't have to deal directly with the CEO or executive team, Dwelo is a fine place to work. But honestly, there are better, more put together companies out there.

Pros

Dwelo invests in your career development and doesn’t restrict access to knowledge or collaboration across teams. Opportunities for advancement.

Cons

Dwelo has traditionally been scrappy and this is reflected by giving lower pay when compared to pay for similar regional roles.
