Pros

The best reasons to work here are that ABC is a very well-run company and the work is fun. I love being outdoors and having my day to myself to listen to tunes as I drive. The training here is really good. I didn't have any type of animal experience, other than raising my dogs, but I love animals and I like to see them close up and work around them. The training focuses on safety, knowledge about the species, how to treat animals humanely, and customer service. I've received two annual reviews here and I thought they were very in depth. My department's manager is a good guy. He is always respectful and a good role model. He was a Field Technician before he was promoted, so he did my job and know's what I go through on a daily basis. This is a great company and everyone does their best. I would recommend working here to a friend or family member, as long as they want to work very hard. The job is not easy, but it's important and rewarding. If you want to feel appreciated and be part of a great team, I would recommend working here.

Cons

I could make doing a different kind of work, like plumbing or construction, but I would not enjoy that nearly as much. I give this job and 8 out of 10, because you won't make huge salary here unless you're a manager, but the work is very enjoyable and the managers are great. This company tends to be a little too politically correct for my preference, because I like to joke around, so be prepared to be called in to meet with a manager if you say anything even a little "locker room," even if you're totally kidding. If you have a problem with extreme political correctness, you might have difficulty with management. I didn't get disciplined, but I did get called in to a meeting about it. I don't even remember what my joke was about. It was no big deal, but someone overheard it and that was all it took to get a 30-minute long "sensitivity training." I'm not saying this is a big deal, but know thyself and if you have a big mouth about off color stuff, you might put your foot in it.

Pros

Interesting line of work, employees are kind and enthusiastic, consistent hours, weekly pay, solid sense of collaboration. Many tenured employees who are open to change and teaching newcomers. Management has high standards, but that makes it a great entry-to-mid level job. You learn a lot about sales, business psychology, and standard operating procedures.

Cons

With it being a regional company, there wasn’t a ton of room for growth on the administrative side.

Pros

I've been here two years and it's been great for me. Last year I had the chance to participate in a fast track management training program that helped me grow more quickly. The program was great because it let me shadow in other departments and get to know other managers who are very kind encouraging and educational. I'm doing the second level in the fast track program this winter. I really like that the company uses its winter slower season to invest in the A plus players that it calls the eagles because they show eagle like performance by caring about clients, speaking with honesty, and living the company values like caring about the environment and safety. I would definitely recommend roles in this company to a close friend or family member who I care about. My manager is a very kind person who checks in with me one on one and every person on his team one on one every week. He models enthusiasm and integrity and I'm fortunate to work under someone who I respect and like. Since I'm about to do my second winter in the 90 day fast track program I'm taking on shift supervisor duties so I get to be in charge of two shifts each week for my team that is giving me leadership experience. My manager debriefs with me after each shift I lead so I feel supported and I'm able to ask him questions about anything unfamiliar. I haven't had a chance to work one on one with the owners of the company yet but they are very friendly and inspiring. They are involved in science and research and they are into protecting nature and the environment. There isn't anyone on the management team or even assistant managers who isn't friendly and totally cool. I especially like the assistant manager in my department because you will not meet a nicer person who is more eager to help.

Cons

Occasionally I have to call a customer who is unreasonable or mean but I tell myself that they might be experiencing pain somewhere in their life and it might just be manifesting in this conversation so I should just treat them with extra kindness because you never know what a person is going through. It still gets me feeling full of adrenaline when I'm getting yelled at by a customer though.
