Mediocre managers with mediocre long-stayers - Assistant Vice-President Citi Employee Review

Pros

At the very least the politics isn't as bad as other big banks

Cons

Most people are mediocre at best. The really good employees don't get the necessary recognition and very soon they leave for greener pastures. If you go above and beyond, you don't get more recognition, pay or promotion, you just get more work instead. The amount of performance bonus paid out is laughable - that is EXACTLY why there are so many mediocre people!

Pros

Hybrid schedule, supportive managers, opportunities

Cons

Once you’re in, comp basically plateaus. Layoffs are happening across the board, which tends to be the full-time culture of citi. The vibe is very much “run lean” until something actually breaks, and only then consider adding headcount. You have to be intentional about protecting your work-life balance, because the implicit expectation is that you’re always on—24/7, 365—without the support of a properly staffed team.
