Pros

Sense of pride in the work the organization does. Working in a non-profit that helps with the advancement of literacy in children, focusing on limiting the drop out crisis in America through youth engagement, and improving the communities in which City Year and it's National sponsors live and work are just some highlights of why City Year is a great organization to work for.

Cons

It is a not for profit organization, so compensation versus the number of hours worked and the stressful work environment are not always balanced. They expect a lot out of their employees and the stress and separation between work and personal life is always tough to deal with. Additionally, there is not much room for advancement and honest feedback on your performance is sometimes hard to come by.

Pros

You do very meaningful work and the staff truly care about you and what you are doing.

Cons

School placements can be quite far from where you live, and the days are long (7:30 am - 5 pm). Often is exhausting, but you stay for the kids.
