Pros
The boss took me under her wing and took an active interest in developing me both professionally and personally. I was asked what I wanted to get out of the internship at the outset, and the boss made sure that I was exposed to the type of work I had requested. FD has done a great job of developing its own in-house template contracts which are easy to read and understand. This is helpful for a junior lawyer/intern trying to develop drafting skills. I was given lots of opportunity to draft and generally engage with the drafting process (e.g. turn comments). I also gained a good understanding of fundraising methods, ESOPs, founders agreements etc. - great for anyone interested in finding out more about the start up world from a legal and commercial perspective. Lots of interesting clients!
Cons
This is a fast moving environment that may not be for everyone. You will be pushed but not hand held. Teams are lean so be prepared to work hard from 9am (sharp) to 6pm. You will need to have a thick skin as feedback can come in hot and heavy. Be prepared to report the boss on your accomplishments and progress daily.
