Pros

Some skilled employees/managers & good compensation

Cons

During the defense bubble, after 9/11, GD-C4 Systems was a great place for challenging work and stable, good income; however, in the past three years, given the downturn in the Defense business, the good old boy network is in full force at C4S - resulting in slow layoff’s for the prior three years. Never a massive number to avoid reporting, or any negative financial obligations to the business – therefore, putting the treatment of employee’s as lowest priority causing a horrible work environment, employees have no idea what day will be their last. Political sabotage of jobs remaining based on good old boy network. Hostile takeover from the East - Taunton, MA, leadership - old GTE players - now in control to try and shrink the business (rumors of yelling in meetings and blame). Also, the new Taunton leadership facilitates lay off’s being implemented by managers who haven’t truly managed employee’s being released. This management sometimes listens to the West politico on how to reduce staff, protecting their buddies or people who brown nose management and never have an opinion (does not care about the business, just keeping their job) - so most highly respected and skilled employee's are NOT being retained. Prediction - further reductions in force and Scottsdale closure. Regarding impact to demographics - no females remaining in senior leadership - highly paid females appear to be the focus of reductions, even from male worker point of views - perhaps senior leadership rely on Phebe N. Novakovic as CEO to offset these actions, but even Ms. Novakovic’s staff is comprised of 23 males and only one female.

Pros

Good work life balance Projects matter for our war fighters Most co-workers are competent and dedicated More work than people, and moving to other engineering jobs is possible

Cons

Some numbskulls seem to get into senior positions. A "Consolidation" of buildings is underfunded, poorly planned, and drives chaos. The push to squeeze every nickel of efficiency means that there isn't always money for equipment or team building events (below the VP level).
