After over 8 years of working for Gensler.... during COVID 19 they lay off a lot of people. I understand that times are difficult but other companies didnt needed to fire so many people.
Don't think they are your family. You might think as you read, ..."Oh this is a pissed comment of someone that got layoff..." but If I could explain all the work I did for this firm and how loyal I was to them; you would be shocked.
After years of working there, these are my take aways.
1. Be ready bend over backwards to please leadership.
2. If you are lucky you might get words of recongnition, very hard to improve your salary. Make sure you get hire with a good one as you wont be able to change this for years.
3. They will make sure you feel you are indeed replacable. Trust me, is one of their most common slogans. Everyone can be replaced.
4. Drink the koolaid. If you ever work there you'll understand the meaning of this. Gensler culture is demaning and will squeeze every drop of sweat of your body. Having good social skills will make you move faster.
One of my biggest mistakes while working there was thinking that Gensler has your back. They have become more and more corporate and If you want to work here my advise is; learn as much as you can but leave as soon as you find a good alternative. They don't value loyal employees. You're never safe... at least most people.
Never doubt yourself....
