Pros
At the time I worked there the pay was well above minimum wage, despite what the general public’s preconceptions might be. The 50% discount card The 10% bonus given from yearly profits
Cons
There are many tasks such as making sandwiches at the back, being on bake off and serving customers. I was not given the opportunity to be trained on ALL these tasks. I transferred my job to another city as I moved for Uni and this was really convenient for me. However, I was still over looked and not treated as an equal. When I upsold on key products, I gained a regional certificate yet the Manager lined their pockets with MY commission. When I took time off due to minor pneumonia, the Manager decided she would not make any adjustments for me in the workplace and I was unfairly dismissed. This shop had a walk in fridge which I refused to enter. She was racist and patronising. I worked there for nearly 5 years and was never given any holidays during that time. It was my first job and so I naively thought I wasn’t entitled to it. I worked in many Greggs shops in different cities and was bullied by the Managers. The Supervisors were the ones who would go on nights out with Managers and come to work drunk on a Sunday. They would all gang up on me to do menial jobs. Absolutely disgusting behaviour! Grateful for the customer service skills I gained but am so glad to be out of there!
