Pros
My team is the best I’ve worked with my career. I would say the people are 90%+ why I stay at New Relic, but I also believe we make a great and competitive product. The scaling challenges of a company growing up have been interesting and satisfying for the most part. Most folks are accountable and want the company to succeed.
Cons
Seemingly lots of turmoil and the middle and upper management layer. My team is a pretty well oiled machine so we don’t feel a lot of the pain associated with that, but it can be a bit jarring to have many folks hired at that level that are missing a lot of context and making decisions without first gathering the require context. Cross team communication can be really difficult - competing roadmaps, shifting priorities, etc. I’d say some of the more recent hires have been a bit questionable but many were hired when it was just generally hard to find people. I’m hoping they adapt to a culture of being invested in our people and our success.
