Pros

I joined Okta before there were 200 employees and still love it. Instead of telling you what’s wrong with Okta, I’m going to highlight why many potential and current employees are wrong for Okta, and perhaps you are too: If you think your workplace should be a democracy, believe in holocracy, flat org structures, or that work is a place where decisions should be made by consensus so no one's feelings get hurt, you’re wrong for Okta. If you think not responding to emails or meeting invitations for days, weeks, or never is ok so that your co-workers have to chase you down at your desk to get a response, you’re wrong for Okta. If you’re looking to work in technical support and pride yourself on your ability point out to customers that it’s not Okta’s fault, or you’re a master at creatively closing cases and managing your performance stats without actually making customers successful, you’re wrong for Okta. If you’re looking to work in Professional Services and believe that closing a project and hitting a billings target is more important than spending the extra time to truly ensure a customer is setup for success, you’re wrong for Okta. If you're in Sales and believe the rules don't apply to you or certain deal sizes exempt you from the rules, you're wrong for Okta. If you're in Customer Success and think that taking customers out for drinks/dinner and being a "yes person" to Sales is what makes an effective CSM, you're wrong for Okta. If you’re in Product Management and you think Product Managers should avoid talking directly to customers, or listening to their ideas, that feature delivery delays are ok, or prefer to avoid committing to customers firm dates when features will be available, you’re wrong for Okta. If the free beer, ping-pong table, video game lounge, free lunches, and yoga room benefits are high on your list of “pros” for considering Okta, you’re wrong for Okta. If you prefer email and texting to talking with coworkers, you're wrong for Okta. If you're not afraid to challenge the status quo, do the right thing above being liked, are comfortable making decisions, standing by them, and vigorously defending them and are always on the side of doing what it takes to make customers successful, then you're Okta material.

Cons

Too many employees come into Okta with the delusion that they're going to be working for a consumer start-up. Okta is hard work -- be prepared to buckle-down, work late nights, and have intense debates with others.

Pros

Smart, talented, and supportive colleagues. Interesting products and the opportunity to work on technology that impacts many customers. Good work-life balance in most teams. Collaborative culture with opportunities to learn from experienced peers. Strong brand recognition and valuable experience for your resume

Cons

Cons Recognition is lacking, especially for individual contributors. Strong performance and consistent delivery do not necessarily translate into career advancement, promotions, or meaningful salary increases. Growth opportunities appear limited for ICs, while management roles seem to receive a greater share of advancement and compensation opportunities. After several years, many individual contributors may find themselves reaching a career plateau with few clear paths for progression. If career growth, promotion opportunities, and compensation advancement are important priorities, it may be worth evaluating other opportunities once you’ve gained experience here
