Pros

Potential for securing a role with one of Sparta Global's clients that may have been difficult / unavailable without an agency's reputation supporting you.

Cons

Management often come across as disingenuous, passive aggressive and tend to have a severe lack of understanding, or respect to employees as an individual, and not just another form of income for the company (look no further than the replies to negative reviews.) Training received was poor and certainly did not reflect the large cost Sparta Global value it as. Lessons would be taught solely via screenshare with little room for exploration and instead copy-and-paste from the trainer; this felt redundant and would often lead to a lack of understanding and having to self-train in free time anyway. Crunch culture is definitely present during training with 'homework' and graded exams each week - with failure leading to disciplinary action and eventually being kicked from the course after two attempts. This seems particularly harsh considering Sparta Global pride themselves on being able to introduce those unfamiliar with technology to the premise; and yet without my own experiences and university background in technology, I severely doubt Sparta Global would've been able to place me into a role with a client as easily. No consideration for work locale and relative costs when they attempt to place you with a client. You cannot refuse a client offer without having to leave the company. Previously, they would also charge you for the training received no matter the circumstances - until they were dropped by their client 'Channel 4', due to unethical practices (see articles on TheRegister / Graduate Fog.) After completing a course in DevSecOps, I was placed into a security consultancy role with no consideration for the fact that the role barely correlates to the technical training received and is instead very much hands-off in terms of working with software, or hardware.

Hello and thank you for leaving a review. Sparta Global has worked hard to build relationships with prolific employers to give our Spartans the opportunity to access roles without prior experience or STEM education - its great to see deserving people in positions they might not have otherwise been able to access. We are incredibly disappointed - and shocked - to read some of your other comments. We are an approved Inclusive Employer company, the only B Corp hire train deploy company and have won a number of employment awards - all of which have included significant audits of our company culture, and interviews with countless staff. Our management team is small and includes our two co-founders who started Sparta Global with a genuine desire to help people from under-represented backgrounds access work in tech. They have never responded to Glassdoor reviews as you suggest. Our training was forced to be remote during the covid pandemic, but it proved to be incredibly popular and enabled us to offer technology training and careers to communities all over the UK - not just close to our physical training academies in London and Birmingham. We would love to run more in-person training sessions in the future, but our Spartans have told us they prefer training remotely, but visiting the Academy a couple of times during the training duration. We are happy to be accommodating of people's individual learning needs. Our training has won a Princess Royal Training Award for quality, and is led by an in-house faculty of experienced IT professionals. Sparta Global is an equal opportunities employer - it is entirely true and accurate that we hire based on attitude, aptitude and potential, and you do not need prior experience or STEM education. However, the training is intense and everyone must keep up in order to succeed. It is not fair to our Spartans if they complete the training and are assigned to a role, if they are not up to par with others they will be working with. We have regular quality gates during the training period to assess peoples' progress. In terms of relocation, all Spartans agree to potentially relocate if a role for them becomes available. This is part of the application process and all Spartans agree to do this when they join us. We do not force people to move and we have never charged for training. Training has always been free.
