Pros
Local to my home easy to commute to
Cons
Left college to work there as I was meant to be starting on an apprenticeship, apprenticeship never happened because someone that dealt with apprenticeship left the region so no apprentices could be started. I stayed there on minimum wage for my age and was worked like a dog in poor conditions. Was moved from pillar to post and went into work each day not knowing which area I’d be working in. Completely undervalued as a member of staff. The air conditioning in the shop was broken for weeks and nothing was done about it, customers were even complaining of feeling uncomfortable with the heat but still nothing done. I’ve found new employment and handed in my weeks notice, I wasn’t sure how much notice to give because I’ve never had an employment contract in the 15 months I was there, I handed my notice in at 9am 5/8/19 and was told I’d have to give a months notice, at 11:30 the same day I was called into the office and told I may as well leave now, because it’s better sooner rather than later and that I’d be paid up to that day. So here I am, I left on the Monday even though the have a weeks notice from me that they aren’t paying me. I’ve contacted Specsavers fairness matters email address, messaged on twitter and emailed a staff member from HR, all have said it’s down to the store partners and the emails have been forwarded to them. I’ve heard nothing, they clearly have no clue about employment law!! Oh and just to add the store manager, said to me “don’t be bad mouthing the company” highly unprofessional and obviously must feel invincible in the role to dare to speak to someone in such an unprofessional manner.
