Pros

The mission of serving military families in their greatest hour of need is rewarding and most of the "hands on" staff is passionate about their work

Cons

TAPS President spends tens of thousands of dollars on whimsical projects that have little to zero mission impact, but takes from funding that has been allocated for survivor resources. Board of Directors should be alarmed! HR is unresponsive to staff communications, rash and unpleasantly demeaned in front of volunteers and guests, some department directors are unable to manage their workload and rarely respond to staff requests for support / guidance. There is no standardized reporting for complaints, requests, nor purchase supply chain within the organization. Employees are expected to be available 24/7 for non-essential work and are exploited for their experiences if it serves to promote the president.

Pros

The HR person is the most competent, smart human I have ever encountered. Her advice in my career has been invaluable. The head of the company needs to pay her more to keep her on! I love my job and she has been instrumental in it

Cons

Need higher pay for employees

Pros

The clients. The mission. The volunteers.

Cons

No opportunity for professional growth. Misspending grant and donor funds, failure to adhere to grantor requirements. Inaccurate reporting to grantors. Inability to cover payroll through legitimate financial means. Failure to include department heads and program managers in ensuring grant dollars are spent on their programs in accordance with grant requirements. Salary is sub par, if you want a livable wage don’t work at TAPS. Employee roles are deemed to be no longer needed for critical positions when they speak truth to leadership and they are pushed out of the organization. Persintant and pervasive hostile work environment. Disability descrimination. Mission creep away from seminar and support services for clients. Lack of empowerment and trust by President and founder. Consistent back stabbing by senior leadership. Retirement plan is sub par. Toxicity is boiling over. Leadership makes changes to progamming without due consideration of best practices and employees who run the programming. President and founder lies about conversations. Age discrimination is prevalent. Gender discrimination against males is prevalent. Failure to take advice of employees who are the bots on the ground. Failure of directors to advocate for their teams. Failure to adhere to best practices. One bad month away from financial catastrophe.
