Excellent benefits, average technology, poor politics - IT The Cigna Group Employee Review

Pros

Even at the lowest bands there is a lot more vacation time than most places and the medical/dental/vision benefits are low cost yet solid. They are very flexible on working from home. Some groups will work with different technologies like SSIS and SSRS, which are not typical for a developer, while other groups will do different design patterns like the latest version of MVC and newer JavaScript libraries.

Cons

The favoritism and politics, echoed as concerns by many other reviewers, seriously call into question whether promotions, advancement, and/or bonuses are based on the merits of one's performance or simply based on whether one is "liked" by "the right people." Not only was there a lot of turnover but there were also a lot of folks (contractors especially) who were simply terminated and in a lot of cases because they didn't "click with the clique." Career opportunities and culture is excellent so long as you are in the "in crowd," else you will not see your responsibilities change that much or have your opinion count that much.

Pros

The Cigna Group overall is a fantastic company to work for! They invest in their employees and do a great job ensuring everyone, in all departments/locations/teams feel as if they matter with the multitude of perks they offer to employees. Many team members were knowledgeable, hardworking, and genuinely committed to supporting the healthcare industry.

Cons

While employed at Cigna healthcare, I experienced a work environment that often lacked consistent communication, balanced workload distribution, and transparent leadership practices. High-performing employees were frequently expected to absorb additional responsibilities without corresponding support, while shifting expectations and excessive micromanagement created unnecessary stress and instability. Over time, this impacted morale, trust within teams, and overall employee well-being.
