Pros

Good law firm, I guess?

Cons

Where to begin. The Racism is rife (lawyer referring to a colleague as a 'smelly brown guy', blackface incident at one of the Christmas parties, terrible D&I stats in the company generally, black lawyers don't stay for long, some partners have tried to have #alllivesmatter conversations with other staff, it's just BAD), sexism also rife (again, lawyers going through brochure of female partners and ranking them on attractiveness, lawyers referring to admin tasks as 'pink tasks').

Pros

Free food and drink. That’s it.

Cons

This firm is shocking beyond words. And has led me to rethink my career in law. They are racist, and this is not solely my own experience. If you do not fit their ideology and their branding regarding your looks (and we all know what I mean by this) your life will be hell. The way they will villainise you, gaslight you, and generally be so horrible to you is just shocking. Management is even worse, a new restructure has come in that just doesn't work, managers like to "sell you" as products to the lawyers. You feel worthless, you feel like the bottom of the barrel. They exaggerate their "lovely culture" so much that they forget to mention in the small print there will only be a lovely working culture for you if you neutralise yourself and your personality heavily to make your “other” colleagues feel the most comfortable, everyone should feel comfortable at work not just a certain category of people. The firm struggles heavily with diversity and as a person of colour, it was so hard being there. And other colleagues of minorities background have also shared their struggles and similar experiences with me. If you speak up, you are looked down upon. They don't welcome fresh, new ideas and people who are intelligent. Instead they see it as a threat and want to neutralise you and dumb you down as much as possible. Working there has genuinley ruined my mental health so much and because of it I don't think I want to work in law again. If you are a POC I would strongly advise you not to join travers smith as it will ruin your confidence and scar you for the rest of your working life. The Pressure and toxicity that comes from this place is genuinley insane. Managers and other colleagues in higher position have this sort of God complex for some reason which is quite strange.
