Pros
They are a relationship company, if you’re good at networking it will get you far. USAA benefits package is one of the best, in comparison to other similar firms. Pay is about average and usually pay more for talent that comes from larger institutions. Has education assistance, 401k contribution matching.
Cons
To get in or move around is difficult because it’s about who you know. Very political and challenging to get efforts to come to life because of the red tape. They are a relationship company, which impacts decisions and creates unnecessary roadblocks if someone’s feelings get hurt. Lately, leadership doesn’t seem to keep the employees in mind. Cutting back benefits: PTO changes, education assistance qualifications more strict. Layoffs have been occurring. Leadership style and management has changed over time with more people bringing in their “friends”, the culture has been impacted. Executive Leadership isn’t transparent when messaging is disseminated to employees.
