Pros

I believe Verizon is caught in a difficult position; the decline of wired services, competition from wireless and cable, and of course the resession. The hood is a workforce that is older and facing health issues therefore absent from work more; changes in technology, and fewer "bodies" to fill positions make running the business very difficult. To Verizon's credit, the company is still tryng to save jobs and provide great service. Benefits are still good considering the environment. People may complain in general, but overall are happy to work for Verizon.

Cons

I am a craft person so I can only give my prespective from the "ground" floor. Firtst line and second line management seem quite distressed; almost abandon by senior management. There seems to be a lack of communication in the upper layers of managemnent and the sales force, for whatever strength it has is failing to win in the market place. The gap between departments is widening crippling effective communication. Mistrust is growing between craft and some management. To often new directives come down and than lower management and craft must 'scramble' to get it in place.

Pros

Compensation is competitive but you will work very hard for it. Culture is excellent and exhibited and practiced from the top down. Benefits are excellent and cost reasonable. 401k match and profit sharing. Lots of training and professional development opportunities. Can advance if you're willing to relocate.

Cons

Company is trying to transform into what it wants to be beyond a wireless carrier (cloud?, security?, telematics?, wholesaler?, etc) and is struggling with a vision, resources, and org structure to make it a reality. Several re-organizations over last few years so job security has frequently been a question. Often delayed response to competitors caused by management's concern that acting would result in not meeting Wall Street expectations. Not the "happiest" place to work because no result is ever good enough and successes aren't celebrated because the focus is always on the next weekly/monthly/quarterly goal.
