Pros
Certain aspects of the culture are good, e.g. there is an active and thriving data science community, yearly internal conference. Though certain such aspects, such as the hack-week are being discontinued. Otherwise your experience is very different from dept to dept and team to team.
Cons
- the company is not growing as expected coming out of covid, and the ensuing slow-down and the inflation. They had to cut the workforce and the whole process was not managed well. - There is a lot of show on DEI, with good intentions, but in reality leadership at all levels is much better talking the talk than walking the walk. - There are a lot of mediocre people who are not strong in what they do, either technical or management, and yet they have become senior, principal, and higher in the company. The company's early success has created a cult of personality around some people who have been in the company for longer and otherwise lack experience in the industry in general. Yearly evaluations are anything but fair, despite the facade to pretend otherwise. I have experienced this over multiple years in different teams. Pandering to people's egos gets you a long way as oftentimes your arguments won't be heard or understood.
