Pros

I've worked at EnviroIssues for a bit and this place suits my personality well. Compared to my last job, I enjoy not having a boss, taking time off when I want or need, and not working in a punitive environment. Instead, I have a high degree of autonomy (and yes I am still accountable to myself and others), a lot of flexibility in my schedule, a sense of being part of a collective antiracist journey, feel supported by my colleagues, and having healthy boundaries with work and my personal life. To do well here, at least where we are currently (Dec 2021), be aware of where you are on your own antiracist journey and be prepared to put relationships and trust first vs having all the answers (you won't). There's a lot of complexity in running a business successfully, navigating capitalism, and still living out our values, and we're still definitely figuring that all out. In the meantime, leadership puts their money where their mouth is by investing resources into racial caucus groups, fishbowls, affinity groups and other learning opportunities for employees.

Cons

We're building a ship and at the same time trying to steer it in a different direction; change is inevitable and it can also be slow. Sometimes the work I want to pursue isn't available yet, and it's a practice of long-term strategy and patience.

Pros

-Very welcoming and friendly coworkers -Working towards creating a community that's positive for everyone by addressing a lot of the toxic hierarchy, and racism issues that exist in the company culture -Good benefits (Health/dental, life insurance, PTO scheduling easy & flexible) -Lots of opportunity to work on many different types of projects. People here are very supportive of each others interests. This company has seriously changed for the better. When I started here 3 years ago I was mentally exhausted after the 1st week. teams were at the beck and call of our clients to the point in which I'd stay past 7 every other night during the week. It was also not uncommon to find people crying at their desks or in our phone rooms. That was just the culture and everybody seemed too afraid to say anything about it. If you asked me to take this job 3 years ago knowing all this, I would have laughed in your face. Today, the work life balance here is so much healthier. Over the last couple years we were faced with a lot of changes and I can honestly say that they've been massive improvements. Management has been very clear about their intentions to make working here a positive environment for everyone, not just senior employees. It's clear that not everyone was ok with that shift but all I can say that I love my job now and I don't have much to complain about.

Cons

-Not a whole ton of career mobility until recently -The 401k matching had been put on hold the past year due to covid. I get the impression these benefits will come back slowly over time as things open up again.
