This business leaves store management to deal with multiple priorities, with little or no assistance from field team. Spending the day constantly moving the store around at the whim of HQ, rather than focussing on the customer. Visual Merch standards are so subjective, one day store looks great, the next it is a disaster after 2 different people visit. Area Management are exceptionally poor & are never seen in the store. When they do visit you wish they didn't, as you will inevitably be told the team are doing a bad job & the store VM merry go round will start again. Expected to stay for hours after closing, unpaid of course, to action VM changes. Video Mystery Shop is used as a tool to beat you with if store gets a poor score, & I've seen staff in tears due to the unjustified criticism they receive. Area Manager has favourites amongst the team & if you are not in this group you will be marginalised & made to feel not part of the wider team. A truly terrible place to work.

Incredible pressure to meet targets that that are often out of reach. Lack of hours to get things completed. I've seen managers do 12 hour shifts very often and haven't been able to get time back. Are the area managers aware this happens and happy to allow it? Staff carry out floor moves and window changes on a regular basis. Most are last minute and staff are expected to drop their own plans and get it done. Moves and window changes used to be planned in better and more notice was given. Feels a bit like they are winging it. Difficult to get help from head office departments. Emails not answered. Staff changing roles frequently. Sales seem disorganized and constant corrections are made. Managers don't have any control over their stores. Most decisions are made from higher up and managers thoughts or concerns are over looked most of the time. Yet they are asked to the store as if it's their own. Mystery shop programme being introduced. Very un-Fat Face. Fat Face have always wanted service to be natural but when staff know that they could be mystery shopped at any time it's puts them on edge and service is forced.

Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, flat management structure, events for staff, clothing allowance

Cons

Middle of nowhere, dodgy industrial estate, lack of creativity, same range churned out year after year, you are either an insider (come up from the ranks, spend your life in and out of work with the same people, live down the road, think Portsmouth is the best place ever) or you are an outsider. You get totally sick of hearing "this is the way we always do things"
