Working culture, company perspective and benefits
Pros
1. In most of time, one can maintain a balance between work and life, seldom need to work overtime, and usually off work when 8.5 hours is met. However, working overtime occurs when clients of the company demand a urgent support or a large amount of hardware production need to be delivered within a short period of time or a new product will be released in the near future. According to my own experience, one must work overtime around 20~30 times on a yearly basis. 2. Co-workers are friendly and nice here.
Cons
1. Key component (such as LTE chip) in the hardware are bought from the chip vendors, for someone who want to have a full understanding of the driver code will feel disappointed about it. Because they don't know the internal structure of hardware (chip vendors keep it secret), they have no ideal about what is the best way to modify the existing driver code for optimization purpose. 2. Due to the low technical threshold, there are many competitors that manufacture the similar products in the market, and profits become lower and lower year by year for ODM/OEM companies such as this one, as competitors continually keep its product price lower than their rivals in order to get a order. 3. Training course specific to software engineer for improving their necessary understanding about hardware is NOT provided, for someone who is a pure software engineer will be suffering from this aspect. Because they will need to spend their own time or money to find the correct material or participate in the outside training course to obtain all necessary knowledge about hardware. 4. Salary and bonus are not better when compare to another companies in the U.S, Canada, Japan or Europe. Note: You should consider finding a better work in another countries If you are equipped with the top talent and want to see a outside world. Don't limit your scope in Taiwan.
