Pros

The leadership at the organization is new, and the rough transition year of 2013 is behind us. Some of the reviews during the past 12 months accurately reflect what had been going on, especially in 2013, when the senior leadership was in transition and the organization was restructuring. Since then, there have been changes. I became the permanent President & CEO in August, the head of our finance and operations joined in April, and the board has added three new members in 2014. The organization is now moving in the right direction, with lots of opportunity for people in our 16-person San Francisco office. We have a clear direction, ambitious plans for growth, and a sense that the next step in Give2Asia's growth is around the corner. Benefits are good, and staff have opportunities to travel and expand professionally.

Cons

Not much to say here. People work hard, love the mission of our nonprofit, the hierarchy is flat, and we are all actively working to expand upon the family feeling that we've built especially during the course of this past year.

Pros

Great exposure to the international/corporate philanthropy world, small organization = wearing many hats

Cons

Extremely high turnover for several years including upper management. Organization has an identity crisis, not sure if it's an advisory service organization for corporate philanthropy clients or a facilitator for private foundations, or due diligence specialists or focused on philanthropy promotion. The pool of grantees and geographic scope is far too large for such a small org to manage effectively - all of this means that the organization has only marginally visible global impact (a fraction of what it could have) and appears less professional or targeted than it should be for a $20M+ nonprofit. Ineffective people are promoted while passionate "new blood" folks are worked hard and treated terribly until they end up leaving. Inner-office politics are about as bad as they get - people stabbing others in the back, inconsistent communication etc. Pay is inconsistent, middle management (often inexperienced) are paid well by non-profit standards while junior employees are pad a non-living or barely-living wage.

Pros

Cohesive environment, great diversity and inclusion, and colleagues are nice. Flexibility is respected in a remote working scenario.

Cons

A small team that requires multi-functionality is expected from everyone.
