Pros

Get to travel. As a shoppie, you don't technically have to work when the ship's in port. Recruitment process and inductions at head office for new starters is fantastic.

Cons

Very bad management in Head office. Specifically from the Crew Scheduling department. There is basically a complete lack of communication between the departments to the point where the employee has to actively email each department at least three or four times a week to gather any information but their excuse is 'because you've emailed two different departments in the same day then there's no official update'...??????? How is this company being run???........I think I've answered my own question when you take into account the extremely poor salary compared to what competitors can offer. It is a known fact that through year on year growth within Hardings, they haven't raised their cruise employees salaries in 10 years!!!! 10 YEARS!!!! A large amount of back-stabbing between new managers coming on-board, targeted at the previous managers they'd replaced due to contracts finishing. If you're looking for a company with progression, look elsewhere. It's a great opportunity to travel but even when you work your way up from a shoppie level to management, it means absolutely squat back on dry land.

Pros

Everything was a pro, this company well and truly looks after everything. I had to pay for medical when I first joined but then that changed so second contract was covered. Insured to a high value, travelled to some Amazing places. If you're ready to get thrown in at the deep end.... this is the perfect out of your comfort zone experience and I couldn't recommend it any more. Wishing I could go back but due to health problems I cannot return

Cons

Low salary, but accommodation, uniform, food, travel paid for

Pros

Often feels hard to see the benefits of working for Harding Retail. Yes, the friendships and travel opportunities were good but they sure do make you work for them (often too exhausted to get off in ports and socialise with other departments). Whilst the staff discount is fantastic (35%), realistically you never earn enough to actually buy anything with it.

Cons

Where do I start... -Extremely long hours (regularly pulling 65 hour weeks) -Very low pay and next to no commission -Management is very poor (although in fairness to them, they often seemed out of their depth) -Work / life balance is silly. Only ever had 3 evenings off during my 6 month contract (not healthy way to spend 6 months). -General obsession with hitting financial target, often at the mercy of staff wellbeing / happiness. -As is the case with any employer, the small things add up and this was certainly the case with Harding Retail, hence the incredibly low staff retention rate.
