Formerly decent work environment, now toxic and failing.
Pros
Pros: It's in the bicycle industry so the dress code is minimal. Generally do not have to work over 45-50 hours a week. The internet connection is fast and the wifi is good. There are a few fun and laid back employees here. Upper management are based in another country and do not ask for or expect much of US office employees and consider a 48 hour turn around reply time on email acceptable. Shifting blame is viewed as an acceptable defense for not doing work.
Cons
Cons: The main office is located in Red Bank, most ‘famous’ for being the home of Dylann Roof. It is extremely hot in the summer and the warehouse is old, cramped and poorly cooled. Lately the warehouse has had to work both night and weekend shifts to try to catch up with the workload. You will get a new health care provider each year with worse options and new paperwork and networks to navigate. Everything at Hawley changed for the worse after the acquisition, excuse me, partnership with Lambert in Quebec. Communication frequently isn't, resulting in misaligned expectations and employee confusion and resentment. Much of upper management has limited grasp of English and comes off as arrogant, overly serious, and aloof. Meanwhile, some local management adheres to the yelling redneck / profane drill sergeant method to provoke results. Major decisions are hastily made without accepting input or feedback from the employees who have to then implement them. Low pay cannot attract or retain quality employees, and having yearly bonuses tied to sales goals penalizes everyone not involved directly in sales. More recently, key employees have abruptly and disruptively left after refusing to submit to 'salary re-negotiation’, which, coupled with an increased reliance on temp agency workers, is extremely detrimental to morale for those unlucky enough to still be here.
