Pros

As part of Stanford University, HighWire Press was a force for good, with staff who worked hard to deliver a good customer service.

Cons

The spin-off from Stanford to the venture capitalists Accel-KKR has not gone well: investment has not materialised, the CEO was replaced by a KKR insider but industry novice, customers have left, staff morale is terrible and turnover has rocketed

Good people and flexibility but no job security

Pros

Flexible working hours and working from home. Social events and happy hours. Great people to work with on a daily basis. Opportunities to become an expert in a particular area.

Cons

Redundancies recently so you don't know if your job is safe. No real career plan or guidance to move up the chain especially on the engineering side. Goal setting is just a tick box exercise at the end of the year. You learn not to expect bonuses, pay rises or training. People are leaving the company so much that it's hard to know who even still works here. The staff who go aren't being replaced which puts even more pressure on the people who are left. Big focus on customer satisfaction but not on employee satisfaction.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. As a healthy business, we regularly review our business objectives against our organizational structure to ensure we are working optimally to achieve our strategic initiatives and provide our customers with an outstanding experience. We also recognize that the sometimes subsequent change can be difficult. We do have a high level of engagement within the business. This is evidenced by our Best Place to Work 2018 and Great Place to Work 2019 certifications are as a result of direct employee feedback and engagement scores well above the minimum required, which we are proud of. However, participation in these or becoming a marketeer for the business by engaging in social media posts, for example, are purely voluntary. Please feel free to connect with me directly if you have an interest in developing a career plan for you given your unique perspective, skill set and interests. Although we are not a large business and do not have a complex career ladder, to your point there are opportunities to expand your expertise and I would be happy to work with you this. I would also be happy to discuss any additional recommendations that you might have on areas of cultural focus. All feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Pros

Junk food if you like to be unhealthy

Cons

The management team constantly harping on about flexibility, the HR team saying we won this award for most flexible employer. However, when it comes down to it, when you do WFH or you come in later, you get interrogated by your line manager they also love to micromanage! The constant clicks between line managers and the senior management team. Making you feel like a stranger as you walk into a room and they're all gossiping, then it goes dead silent. The complete lack of honesty when the "click" all say they're WFH and then you find them in the pub mid afternoon! Sitting in pointless meetings to celebrate people's success for just doing their job! A petty excuse to give out a medal for participation in my opinion. All shouting and dancing and promising the world but really it's all smoke in mirrors. There is a serve lack of processes being followed extending deadlines, skipping tasks or processes to deliver a half functioning product to a customer. The promise of a bonus in your contract however never actually receiving one even though you've met all your objectives and preformed exceptionally well throughout the year. Finding out from other colleagues that have been there for years that they've never got a bonus. The lack of cleaning the toilets, going into the toilets holding your breath everyday as they stank of poo, it was something we just had to put up with.
