Pros

There are no pros of working here.

Cons

The stand-in CEO (Don Fornes) is destroying the company. He is egotistical, quick to let people go, and will fire even the hardest workers on a whim. There is absolutely no job security here, so if you decide to take a job just remember you are just a number.

Horrible Place to Work

Pros

Very disappointed with what direction this company has gone.

Cons

I'm very disappointed with the direction this company has gone. If you are thinking about applying at Highwire I would strongly recommend reconsidering. The CEO, Don Fornes, has no idea what he is doing and could care less about his employees. They have fired 10+ employees in the last 9 months; a handful of which were Managers, Directors, VPs, and Executives. Considering they are a relatively small company (less than 60 employees), this should concern everyone.

Highwire has evolved rapidly since new management joined two years ago. We went from being a bootstrapped, founder-led team of sixteen to a growth-equity-backed company with over 65 employees (and growing). We’ve aggressively expanded our team, opened a second office in Boise, added a new CEO & board of directors, and made the difficult decision to eliminate some positions that didn’t align with our new company goals and vision. We are confident that the decisions we’ve made were right for the company while acknowledging that so much rapid change was uncomfortable for some people, especially those that were let go. We believe in transparency, and our numbers tell the story. In the past 12 months, we’ve hired 39 new employees, promoted eight, let go of nine, and six left voluntarily. We are very excited about the team we’ve built and the culture we are establishing. As for Don, he’s got an impressive track record, but he’s always happy to sit down with candidates or employees and discuss our strategy.

Pros

There is lots of work to be done.

Cons

Highwire does not promote from within and offers no internal career progression. Additionally, the CEO is inappropriate, cocky, unprofessional, and rude.

While not everyone earns promotions, it’s in our company’s best interest to provide our great employees with meaningful career growth, and we do. It’s important to consider our recent organizational growth. When current management joined in April 2021, the company had 16 employees (some of whom are no longer with the company). Today we have over 65 employees! So by necessity, we hired most of our current team from the outside. Many of our employees have been at Highwire for less than two years. Nevertheless, in the past twelve months, we’ve promoted eight employees to new positions and provided merit raises to another eighteen folks. We think that’s pretty darn good. Your characterization of our CEO, Don Fornes, does not align with my personal experience. I worked with Don for five years at his last company and was excited to relocate to Boston when he asked me to join him in this new venture (a few of us followed him here from that last company). Don is very accessible and genuinely eager to get to know people at every level. He is happy to meet with candidates during the interview process, just ask!
