    I joined home group in November of last year after working for the NHS and the local authority for many years. I have to say it is the best move I have ever made. The kind caring staff I work with are absolutely amazing, the work/home life balance is great. The standards of support and care are excellent.     I have been working at Home Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Good sick pay, good access to support and counselling/advice. Locally, line managers, colleagues have each others'bs is and are supportive.

    Cons

    Having to work weekends, bank holidays, etc and the rota - 3 shift patterns, disliked much The salary is bad, for the level of stress and responsibility, now local admin/services are relocating to Birmingham.

    Advice to Management

    Invest more in quality staff by paying decent living salaries, more job security.

    Colleagues can feel out of the loop at times if not based at head office in Newcastle, however management do try to address this.

      1. You get to help people which is great and have a positive effect upon their lives. It is lovely to give people the support so that they are able to live on their own eventually

      1. Treated like a maid. I was hired to be a support worker but I spent some of my time picking up after people and it got to the point where it was too frustrating and I felt taken advantage of 2. People are constantly being rude and verbally abusive. The residents often call you names. Do not get me wrong - most of them were great and wanted help.       1. Please do not be overly critical. We all approach problems in different ways. Discuss things with us. When we raise questions, we are not questioning management's judgement. We just want to have a proper conversation. 2. Provide more support for your workers when we are verbally abused by residents. We work hard and we do not deserve to be abused by the people we are trying to help. No one should be expected to work...
