Pros

Don't get fool by the other fake reviews

Cons

The number one problem with Intek is its lies. Constant lies. It has been talking about pay increase for over two years, but nothing is happening. Management is waiting to get rid of all the seniors, and continuing abusing the new hires. The turn over of the new hires is at almost 100%. You will find most of the seniors stay because they have nowhere to go, and most new hires quit within the year. Of course, with lies come with the cheating of employee's pay. With a broken piece work system. The seniors have some sense of how the coding work, and make money that way. But Intek will constantly removed employee's code and to deduct pay. Unlike the previous review (possibly an Intek staff) stated, Rogers is NOT the problem. Rogers paid both in-house and contractors tech generously, but Intek being the middleman took a big chunk out of the hard workers that earn its bread and butter. Rogers has some issue with its network and products, but never cheat employee with pay, but Intek DOES! Very unsafe working environment. This is generally not a Intek's fault, but it's management direction compounded the problem. When you are working in areas dealing with pole and overhead wiring, electrocution and falling are great dangers. Since you are paid by the work, no work no pay, certain employees are taking risks. Intek management is making things worse as the supervisors are silently forcing tech to perform dangerous work. Accidents are rampant. When you are hurt, the management doesn't care. There were incidents that your manager worried more about your blood staining customer's carpets when you got bitten by cusotmer's dog , or when you fell, they concerned that if you finished the work. It is a cold-hearted working place. You got relocated almost every day with no compensation. This one is also NOT entirely Intek's fault, but Intek made it worse. Rogers relocates its techs base on work load, so it is normal to get relocated. Rogers actually paid Intek for relocation, but Intek took all the money from techs, and started to dispatch them all over the place. Consider that you could be hired for one designated working area, but have to drive over 100KM every day to work. For most senior tech, works are constant and regular, you make about 130-150 for 10 hours, minimum wage. Good days, over 200. Then there are the bad days, you got 4 calls, and make less than 50. Your supervisors will tell you to stay at a Tim Hortons to wait for the whole day for nothing. The most important question, why am I still here. I am on vacation, and not going back after. All the techs working at Intek right now know I am telling the story like it is. Stay FAR FAR AWAY!

Pros

Low supervision, for some tech, may not be a good idea. Free company phone. Company provided tools.

Cons

There are so many cons, it is almost impossible to list them. Please don't work at this job to experience them first hand. 1. Horrible hours, 2 shifts: 8-6:30 & 9:30-8. 365 days, you work 4 days on, 2days off, never ending. 2. Bad supervisors. The supervisors couldn't care less about the tech. Most of them are lazy, and do nothing but yelling at you when issue surfaced. 3. Rogers dispatch is just as horrible. Your calls will get moved and deleted. Dispatch will drop bad calls on you and take away good money calls to give to techs they know. 4. You get a company truck, but you pay a daily minimum of $5 for gas. Your truck is monitored by GPS. 5. You have to pay for your own benefit. 6. Winter is hell. 7. When there are calls, you make money because it is piece work. But when there are no calls, you were not allowed to go home, but wait at Tim Horton's for the whole day. Personal worst day: $30-$5 gas. $25 for a 10 hours day. And it is not rare to have one once a month. 8. You got sent all over the place to work. Your fixed location is a joke. If you are a Toronto tech, don't be surprised to work in Barrie for the whole winter. There are guys in the company that are forced to drive over 100KM one way every day to work.

Thank you for your review. It is unfortunate that you feel that way. Intek is very open and honest that the Field Service and Installation Technician position is not for everyone. The hours of work, the pay system, driving requirements, etc. are all outlined during the interview process, prior to employees being hired. Intek's competitors work the same hours, and pay employees based on the same model. That being said, Intek employs approximately 200 employees who work in this position and they are able to make an honest and lucrative living. Intek's vehicles are monitored by GPS, for the safety of our employees as well as the public at large. The $5.00 per day charge is for employees who wish to keep the company vehicle at their place of residence. Employees have the option to park at one of Intek's offices, and the $5.00 fee is waived. Furthermore, employee benefit premiums are paid partially by the employee, and partially by the company. In January of 2017 Intek made enhancements to its benefits program, based on employee surveys and feedback. Intek did not increase benefits costs for employees with these enhancements.

Thank you for your review! Intek is disheartened to hear that you feel this way after 10 years of employment. You are correct about "No salary raise." As you are aware, technicians are paid by piecework not salary, therefore there is no salary to increase. The great thing about piecework is that you control your earnings. Employees who are motivated, work hard, are efficient, detail oriented and execute excellent customer service skills are able to earn a lucrative income. The comment "They steal your money" is just completely untrue. Technicians are paid based on the codes submitted for they work completed. Is it possible that their have been coding errors? Please discuss any coding issues with the payroll department. Furthermore, any issues with management should be brought forward to the company to be addressed. Regards, Intek Communications Inc.
