Ideal Mix of Teamwork & Autonomy

Pros

Looking to unleash your creativity where you get support and so do your ideas? This is an ideal place. Most everyone is extremely empowering and supportive and works to unlock your ideas and contributions and maintain a healthy balance between work and life. Even if a client is less than enjoyable, the IP team makes it stimulating and fun. The methodology here is about getting clients to emphasize value instead of simple gloss, making the problem-solving meaningful and authentic. We work in one-week sprints that help leave the workweek at work come Friday night.

Cons

Being all-remote limits engagement options, but the IP team does a great job of engaging nonetheless, even in social ways (Zoom game nights, Slack book and travel groups, etc.) that help us get to know one another.

Awful, Toxic Liars

Recommend

Business outlook

Pros

The constant barrage of terrible situations can build strong bonds between coworkers.

Cons

Management are dangerously inept and know very little about technology, marketing or how to run an agency. This leaves them unable to lead the company in any meaningful direction or fulfill the demands of their clients. They are entirely occupied with bringing in new business and immediately ignore clients once they have signed a contract. Teams are rarely given any notice that they are taking on a new client, and it often comes out that we have lost a couple weeks between contracted start dates and teams being assigned. Only a few employees (design and development) have meaningful job titles and defined roles, everyone else is considered a project manager or digital marketer as it behoves management. If you work here your title will likely be misconstrued or changed without your input, this is guaranteed for any UX hires. Ironpaper does not facilitate UX design or use an Agile methodology. When confronted about management issues, the first response will be to eagerly seek out lower level employees to blame. They often resort to pitting internal teams against each other in an attempt to avoid confronting problems. If you work here you will likely be accused of something you did not do, or gaslighted about things that you have accomplished. They will lie to anyone about anything, which makes them impossible to trust and dangerous to work for.

Autonomy at Ironpaper = Figure it out yourself

Pros

Smart and supportive coworkers who will keep you sane.

Cons

Ironpaper specializes in "growth marketing" which means they look for quick fixes (low hanging fruit) and never spend the time to create a solid strategy that is scalable. This applies to both internal company growth as well as strategy for clients. Instead they rely on good employees to try and figure out how to solve problems that should really be handled by senior management. In a nutshell: -Leadership team is completely comfortable lying to employees and is much more concerned with outward appearances -No matter what marketing position you're hired for you'll be made a project manager -Ineffective leadership team that often provides conflicting feedback which leads to confusion and undue stress for employees -Production team that is not held to standards or reasonable deadlines -Lower than average compensation -Benefits include expensive health insurance with high deductibles, free dental, 401k without company matching and a pretax metrocard that the company will contribute half the cost
