I have been working at Irwin Mitchell full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Unfortunately there are none that are worth highlighting.

    Cons

5,000 characters isn’t enough to summarise the cons of working for Irwin Mitchell. The induction process is poor and training is non existent. Your mental health will deteriorate after being in a workplace where people don’t communicate, don’t smile and don’t reinforce one another. Staff are only concerned about titles, job descriptions and levels in the hierarchy. There is no collaboration between management and...

I worked at Irwin Mitchell full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are some people who care and are good at their jobs

    Cons

The culture of the business, particularly amongst non lawyers and support staff is very competitive and backbiting is encouraged. The most significant issue with this behaviour is that a very small number of people are capable and able to do their jobs effectively. In order to compete against others they lie about their abilities, take credit for work they’ve not completed, plagiarise articles from the internet and...

    Advice to Management

If you have to try and assert your authority to get staff to do what you want , it’s because you have none. You don’t own staff and they are free to say no to you - accept that and don’t try to punish staff because they don’t agree with you! Also I hope your daughters never experience being sexually harassed and having zero support from female management, I wonder how you would respond.

I worked at Irwin Mitchell full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Good starting spot. Can gain some experience.

      Cons

Training is not as detailed as first promised to you . Other colleagues are not very approachable or friendly. A culture of backbiting is rewarded. Colleagues will drop you in it for anything at the drop of a hat , and you will certainly be the last to know. Woe betide you make any mistakes ! No matter how minor this nets you a belittlement and lecture. You are told your role is important at the start, but soon enough...

      Advice to Management

Make the place nicer to work , and actually listen to the feedback of all employees , not just some.

      Pros

Friendly staff, large firm so a lot of opportunity for training.

      Cons

Pay is low for case load/BD responsibilities. Some teams/managers are better than others.

      Advice to Management

      Be more transparent.

I worked at Irwin Mitchell part-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Workmates are ok but management not responsive

      Cons

I was made redundant whilst on maternity leave and not even told until a return to work interview and then felt pressured into a different job I didn’t even want. Never got to use keep in touch days and not even an apology. Stuck it out for a year afterwards but couldn’t do the new job.

      Advice to Management

At the very least tell people when they are made redundant.
