I worked at Irwin Mitchell full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Salary, pleasant working environment (large windows, climate controlled, really nice toilets)

    Cons

Spread thin, little admin support, training 'offered' but not given when asked for, expected to work through breaks without pay when lunch was provided (basic sandwiches, never pleasant), expected to support several solicitors and paralegals who each thought you only worked for them.

I have been working at Irwin Mitchell full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are some really great people in the legal teams at IM. The issue is, and has been for some time, the senior leadership in HQ. The more senior, the worse it seems.

    Cons

IM spend a lot of time and effort to promote its company values and benefits working at IM, but time and again the senior leaders seem to ignore these when it doesn't suit them. It is simply hypocritical. The IM Board are lawyers, not business people, and it shows. Their idea of what management is / does is to micro-manage, but without any clue themselves how to overcome issues, they start to attribute blame. This has led to a Blame Culture, that we all talk about (often joke about). The systems and operations are rubbish. Its just not what IM care / think about. None of the good Ops / IT Managers stay very long, presumably because they can't stand the working environment.

Fantastic on boarding process from start to finish. Everyone's welcoming, happy to assist you as a new starter, welcome packs given, IT & system training given along with fantastic support from the Recruitment team. IM have a great working culture and working environment where wellbeing is a big part of your life here. The focus is trust and flexibility with employees to ensure they are happy so that they can give their best. Opinions are valued and career progression is tailored to you individually. The office is vibrant yet relaxed and it’s a superb place to work.

    Cons

    Can’t think of any

I have been working at Irwin Mitchell full-time

    Pros

Tea and coffee machine, mostly friendly colleagues, good step up in PI law

    Cons

Partners/line managers care more about money than they do about ensuring the happiness and welfare of their teams. Staff are overworked and paid incredibly poorly. Flexible working for those under associate level is a myth. Paralegals are considered too "junior" to be trusted to work alone. Those who speak out and demand better treatment, or even suggest a small change, are ostracised and treated terribly by managers, used as scapegoats and practically forced to hand in resignation letters. Certain senior staff members are well known for making junior staff cry and have a very negative affect on their mental health. Concerns that are raised are squashed and being treated poorly is considered "just a part of working at IM". IT systems are incredibly poor and purse strings are too tight to do anything about it. Overall, it is very disappointing because they are losing great people who do amazing, life-changing work, because they do not value their staff's well being nearly enough as they should.
