Company in a slow decline

Pros

This company once had a great culture, still a lot of great people and professionals left in the company

Cons

They don't care about people who work for them. Co-founders and people around them have created an echo-chamber that supresses objective feedback, doesn't stop the CEO from really bad decisions and everyone who speaks up ends up fired. They started firing inconvenient people last year, lost several employees who actually had a huge impact on the growth and lost 30% of their revenue as a result. In the end, CEO started doing marketing and after a few months decided to fire almost the entire marketing department that actually helped get the revenue and helped the company to live through the bad times. The only people left to do marketing in the company is the CEO himself, another co-founder's wife and one other person who contributed little but "stayed aligned with the culture". The employees that got cut didn't know that something was wrong until their termination was announced in 1 day. The CEO then bragged about his decision to cut 10% of the company even though they all were top-performers and the company isn't struggling financially. They also underpay their employees. Company has a strict policy of not discussing salaries, but not a single person there gets paid what they would be offered in another company.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, but your feedback is a bit misleading. We lost 30% of revenue in Q3 2022 and fired a few employees only in Q1 of 2023. Unfortunately, the projects where the people were fired didn’t help us grow and we would not keep investing there. We tried to make it work for a long time, but in the end, we could not risk the jobs of the rest 62 employees and had to make an unpopular decision. We focused on what’s working and this helped us start growing again.

Pros

The main pro is that company offers a lot of flexibility, The pool of projects is big enough for u to pick one to you liking - part/full time, tech stack, workflow and etc. Besides, Lemon secures your work. In relations with client, if conflict situation arises, they try to give an independent evaluation of course, but I would say slightly more on dev's side. They do value their employees and understand their importance as assets. This is rare when working as a freelancer.

Cons

I don't see significant cons for myself. I imagine for someone who is just starting their career it might be hard to enter, you don't get much guidance or mentorship on projects, but have to figure everything out on your own instead
