      A great business let down by shocking local management

      I worked at Lime for 3.5 years, seeing it go from a niche product to being a part of the cultural fabric of London. Seeing and being a part of that change first hand was a once in a lifetime experience I am grateful to have been a part of. I worked my way up the ranks, starting out as a battery swapper and ending as a leader of a large scale team within the operation. I am and will forever be thankful to the people who put their trust in me to deliver. The culture was tight and people got along. I have made lifelong friends from my time at Lime, some of which have since moved with me to a different business within the industry.

      Cons

      In mid-2024, a management shake up occurred within our market. Out was the tight, friendly culture and in was one of fear and intimidation. Shouting matches became a regular fixture, with the whole office expected to pick sides. This directly affected your standing with the people in charge and put you in the firing line for demotions and termination. This is compounded by the general American culture of 'move fast and break things' and 'plead for forgiveness rather than ask for permission' which has resulted in the business being in a difficult place within the market.

      Culture problems ahead of their time

      The company mission is admirable The company product is decent

      Cons

      The level of toxicity that the company has built in 7 years in the company is impressive The COO and MD of Ops run an annual cull where those whose face doesnt fit get made redundant, This has become an open secret and is widely talked about. The culture of fear is palpable. This culture leads operational teams to act recklessly to protect their local profitability leading to significant issues with city compliance and safety as well as a total lack of joined up thinking. I have never seen such narrow focus from a leadership team, the short term success of the business is not sustainable.

      Being punished for other colleagues mistakes getting put on the lower pay rate even for Emergencies Poor management and massive backlogs caused for this fact Toxic management Poor working conditions Lack of tools have to be shared with a vast number of employees Lack of training Unrealistic targets Unventilated work areas and lack of measures put in to keep people cool in the summer People getting sunburnt due to having to work outside in the sun all day
