Worst Place I’ve Ever Been

Pros

The only pro is that they are fully remote and the pay is relatively mediocre.

Cons

Not even sure where to begin. Empathy? You have to start from the top, and I assure you, there is no people first mentality here. The idea that this company values empathy is absurd, when constant concerns over business practices are met with the charm of a used car salesman who covers up a rust stain with a bumper sticker that says, “You’re a hero!” Considering the turnover for their employees is average at just over a year, one might not be surprised at the amount of poor reviews flooding Glassdoor but let’s not forget the great witch hunt of 2022 when leadership was determined to find out who had told the truth about this company. There is gross mistreatment of employees, poor benefits (unlimited PTO is a lie) and a constant fear driven mentality that if you make even one mistake that you will in fact be let go. Their HR department is absolutely useless, and exists solely to protect the company - not you. Bonus points: the fact that most people in positions of leadership are neither qualified or trained to do their jobs properly should come as no surprise, considering the level at which you see these reviews arriving on Glassdoor for an array of departments.

Pros

Competitive salary and decent benefits. The company matches contributions to your HSA if you choose the high-deductible health plan. Technically, there is unlimited PTO.

Cons

They have created a culture that makes you feel like you are never enough, reinforcing it with constant firings. I witnessed 13 firings in less than a year, primarily for "underperforming". Several were within the first six months of their employment. It is a small team with a high turnover rate. There is no education for onboarding employees. They don't teach you about the product, the services offered, or the industry. When you ask for help or additional education, you receive responses such as, "Fake it till you make it" or "Make something up. Hopefully, the client will forget if you are wrong." The commission isn't earned until you exceed your YEARLY goal, with top performers earning between $7,000-$9,000 per year. They say there is potential for growth but don't tell you upfront that they have a rule saying you can't even be considered for a promotion or lateral move until you have been in your role for a year.

What a shame.

Pros

Relationships with smart and capable colleagues.

Cons

The founders and execs have sadly lost sight of the culture that made this place magic. Managers who are either under-qualified or toxic are given free rein and the employees that work the hardest and contribute the most are tossed aside. Feedback about toxic leadership and underperforming management is actively ignored. The people team will NOT help you if you have a lower-level position. Silence and complicity is now your only hope to progress through the company. Member Support is mediocre and hostile at best. Customer success is a dumpster fire. The technical teams are not held to deadlines or communication standards. Any attempts at QA are laughable. Lively is lost, and while this story is not unique, it seems those in charge are determined to allow these trends to continue.
