Not as picture perfect

Pros

There are some great colleagues and teams left at Lookers

Cons

Don’t believe all of the picture perfect reviews on Glassdoor. They are largely manufactured by HR pushing people to the site following training and induction courses, when they have barely joined the business and can’t give a balanced view. This is how the company achieved 200 positive reviews and a „great company to work for accolade“. The same HR team completely ignores the stance and feedback of about 2,000 colleagues leaving the business each year due to low morale, poor job satisfaction, disengaged senior team and lots of redundancies. Like in most companies it’s not all bad and neither is it as good as portrayed here. If you want more balanced feedback, check out the company reviews on indeed.

No leadership

Pros

Good divisional performance and growth

Cons

No leadership. Company is run by people determined to turn Lookers into another DFS with no understanding of motor industry and no regard for inherent culture at Lookers. Just mindlessly copying processes and ideas from previous employer with empty slogans about becoming noticeably better. No delivery on any projects: poor recruitmemt, disasterous redundancies, children in need sponsorship which became a massive distraction and customer ratings that provide no real insights.

Pros

Business oriented divisions Some great initiatives and projects around the group Decent new benefits Great new office

Cons

The real challenge is the business culture. While the divisions are measured by many KPIs to endorse performance and shape mindsets, the head office functions lack control and it entirely depends on the individuals running the department. The recent IT restructure is s great example: At an IT conference in January to ‘celebrate success ’ the various IT teams were recognised among other things for great IT delivery. Three months later the company announced redundancies to many of the same people it recognised in January due to performance issues! Three months to go from hero to zero? And the same senior staff post pictures of picking up new expensive sports car within just days of ending people’s careers at Lookers. And the company says that the culture in IT is bad. Double standards!
