Pros

LIIF has always been a strange place to work, but at least the prior management was honest. Sad to say but new leadership in the past 2 years it has made it an unhealthy place to work. A new CEO was dropped in possibly due to his seat on the Board and he immediately aligned himself with the wrong person (a director level), who started same time. A seasoned CEO should have the experience to know better than to do that, and should not need to be propped up by anyone. His blinders prevent him from hearing was everyone is saying. Morale is being destroyed in the SF office due to the highly questionable promotion of a power-hungry person, unqualified person, promoted to a C-level position, who holds senseless grudges, terminates people as an act of power, and seeks loyalty by promoting others also not qualified for their position. These people then kiss up to feel safe in their jobs. These are not things that should go on in a non-profit. PROS If you’re at a higher level you will get paid well, LIIF is a cash cow with yearly merit increases usually around 3 and up, and bonuses so generous some could buy a car.. LIIF is more like a profit company, they make a lot of money so it’s easy to get training, travel well on the company dime, enjoy staff ‘retreats’ and lots of free alcohol. They spare no expense in providing employees with good snacks, drinks, and meals.

Cons

CONS Lower level staff make little. Look at LIIF’s 990, a PUBLIC document non-profits must file showing the top 10 earners, and you’ll wonder why a CEO of an 80 person company makes half a million dollars, why VP’s make in the $200k-300k range, while a staff accountant in SF barely makes a living wage. Insecure CEO who won’t see that his SF office is being destroyed by someone who is 'morally challenged'. People are absolutely miserable. Overall – you should skip this place and move on. To succeed in the SF office you have sell your soul and suck up to a C level manager.

Pros

Many folks passionate about the work claimed to be done at company.

Cons

Work/life balance out of whack! Middle management is dominated by narrow minded/focused task oriented individuals having no managerial skills, emotional intelligence or capacity to trust subordinates; said subordinates must either kowtow to them or experience retaliation. Management open to new/others’ ideas, not so - toxic environment, yes. Additionally, Org management believe they are doing much “good” throughout the country by financing (re: lender to) new educational facilities in areas of need; is the continued creation of Charter Schools the correct road to education for all; charters make many operators rich while they serve communities needing a hand up.
